Position

 

Lead, Payroll, Edmonton

 

 

Location and Reporting Structure 


Reporting to the Superintendent, Compensation & Benefits, this position will be based in Edmonton, Canada.

 

 

Responsibilities 

 

•    Manage data entry and imports, reconciliations, calculate retroactive adjustments, perform gross up calculations, verify deductions; including, taxes, processing garnishments, and reviewing outputs and deliverables from service providers to ensure accuracy and integrity of the payroll process.
•    Maintain and update employee information, records of employee leave and overtime for the purpose of calculating pay and benefit entitlements.
•    Prepare and verify statements of earnings and deductions prior to distribution.
•    Prepare, verify and process all employee payroll related payments, including regular pay, benefit payments, and special payments such as bonuses and vacation pay.
•    Complete, verify and process information relating to benefits such as Extended Health, Drugs, Dental, Group Life, LTD, AD&D, RRSP plans, TFSA savings, and options plans.
•    Prepare payroll related filings and supporting documentation, such as year-end T4 and related documents, RRSP reconciliations, Records of Employment and other statements.
•    Compile, review, reconcile and monitor statistical reports, statements, and summaries related to pay and benefits accounts.
•    Maintain rigorous control standards, identify and resolve payroll discrepancies.
•    Identify solutions to non-standard requests, manage project teams, and work collaboratively with members of the human resources and accounting team to ensure the smooth operation and recordkeeping of payroll processes and systems.

 

 

Desired Competencies and Requirements 

 

•    Ten (10) years of experience performing full cycle payroll functions, including journalizing of costs, reconciliations and processing remittances; preferably in the senior payroll role in the organization with inclination given to those with experience with a mining company.
•    Post Secondary Diploma in Accounting or Business Administration.
•    Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) is required; a Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation is preferred.
•    Experience working with Avanti software is considered a strong asset.
