Position
Contract Geologist, Nunavut Up to 1 year contract
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Manager, Exploration, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
• Log and sample core, ensure data entry from core logging;
• Collect and interpret geological data from exploration programs, including diamond drilling, soil/till surveys, preparation of drill core for logging, and sample shipments as required;
• Collaborate with the team and work independently to ensure the core shack remains highly organized;
• Report completed work to the Supervisor;
• Support geological and geophysical programs in a safe and efficient manner;
• Participate in daily toolbox meetings to promote compliance to B2Gold Nunavut’s safety policies and procedures; and
• Ensure the work area is free of any hazards (ex. tripping hazards).
Desired Competencies and Requirements
• Two (2) to five (5) years’ experience in drill core logging and drill contractor management in a remote camp setting with limited access to resources;
• Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or related discipline;
• Familiarity with MX Deposit and experience in Orogenic/Banded Iron Formation (BIF) gold is an asset; and
• Physically able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform physical labour. WHIMS Certification and/or Level 1 First Aid considered an asset.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $124,020.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $45.00 and overtime rate of $67.50) in a work year.
