Position

 

Deputy Superintendent, UG Trades, Nunavut

 

 

Location and Reporting Structure 


Reporting to the Superintendent, Electrician, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.

 

 

Responsibilities 

 

•    Provide leadership and technical oversight for all underground electrical, instrumentation, communications, and mechanical systems, ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of power distribution infrastructure, substations, transformers, switchgear, 5G LTE networks, leaky feeder systems, pumping systems, compressors, and other fixed and mobile plant assets.
•    Support the Superintendent in the development, administration, and monitoring of annual operating (OPEX) and capital (CAPEX) budgets, including forecasting resource requirements, evaluating project costs, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and ensuring expenditure aligns with departmental and operational objectives.
•    Assist in leading the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of preventative and predictive maintenance programs to maximize equipment availability, minimize unplanned downtime, extend asset life, and ensure compliance with manufacturer recommendations, maintenance best practices, and reliability-centered maintenance principles.
•    Plan, coordinate, and manage underground electrical and mechanical projects from conception through completion, ensuring all work is executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory requirements, company standards, and operational priorities.
•    Collaborate closely with Mine Operations, Maintenance, Technical Services, and Planning teams to align maintenance and project activities with production schedules and business objectives including providing direction and support to Underground Trades Supervisors and Planners.
•    Ensure all electrical and mechanical activities are performed in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), applicable M421 Underground Mine Regulations, occupational health and safety legislation, and company standards.

 

 

Desired Competencies and Requirements 

 

•    Five (5) years of electrical, mechanical and instrumentation experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams in an underground mining remote arctic environment.
•    Red Seal Journeyperson Electrician.
•    Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission (WSCC) Supervisor Level 2 Underground certificate.
•    Working knowledge of Sandvik Automine and 5G LTE Networks.

 

 

Compensation and Benefits


For informational purposes, the annual salary for this role is $196,500.00 plus 10% bonus
