Position
Emergency Response & Safety Advisor, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, Back River, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
• Ensure a safe environment for all project employees, contractors and visitors. Promote and implement controls to ensure compliance with relevant acts/regulations, promote continuous improvement of performance through Health & Safety Programs and Procedures.
• Conduct safety-related inspections, assist with incident investigations and aid departments with job hazard analysis development to ensure compliance with relevant acts/regulations and B2Gold Nunavut’s Health & Safety Program.
• Maintain/develop emergency response plans, ensuring they align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Identify potential safety hazards and assess risks, then integrate these findings into emergency/safety plans.
• Coordinate/manage emergency responses, ensuring efficient deployment, communication, and the adherence to established protocols.
• Maintain accurate records of emergency response activities, including incident reports, training records, and equipment maintenance logs.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
• Five (5) years progressive Health & Safety experience which included responsibility for Emergency Response in the mining industry, preference for those that have coordinated these activities at a remote site.
• Post Secondary Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or extensive credentialling in Health and Safety practice.
• NFPA 1001, NFPA 1002 certifications, Emergency Response Training, First Aid and CPR certification and a Nunavut Workers Safety and Compensation Committee (WSCC) Supervisor Level I certification or ability to obtain same are required; Certified to provide Surface and Underground Mine Rescue training, Aircraft Accident Rescue and Firefighting (AARF) Training, is an asset.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $160,537.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $58.25 and overtime rate of $87.38) in a work year.
