Position
Geological Technician, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Sr. Mine Geologist, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
• Collect and handle blast hole cuttings, stockpile samples, and underground face samples. This also involves careful and accurate sampling to ensure data integrity.
• Organize all collected samples and prepare them for shipment to both onsite and offsite assay laboratories, ensuring that they are securely and properly dispatched.
• Daily entry of mine data into tracking spreadsheets, meticulous in recording and updating this information to maintain accurate up-to-date records.
• Move core samples into logging facilities and prepare them for analysis. This includes opening boxes and ensuring that cores are ready for logging.
• Log, photograph, sample core materials accurately and record observations.
• Execute ore mark-ups in alignment with design specifications for both open-pit and underground operations, encompassing ore spotting activities during equipment digging operations.
• Perform general construction and labor duties as required.
• Ensure work area is free of any hazards (ex. tripping hazards).
Desired Competencies and Requirements
• One (1) year experience in a similar role, preferably in an industrial or mining environment. Familiarity with large equipment operations is an asset.
• Proficient in using GIS software and GPS equipment for tasks such as sample pick-up and ore mark-outs.
• Prior experience working in a remote camp setting with limited access to resources considered an asset.
• Physically able to lift a minimum of 75lbs and the ability to walk 5 kilometers or more for 10 hours daily in adverse weather conditions.
• WHIMS Certification and/or Level 1 First Aid considered an asset.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $104,728.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $38.00 and overtime rate of $57.00) in a work year.
