Position

 

Geotechnical Engineer, Nunavut

 

 

Location and Reporting Structure 

 

 Reporting to the Sr. Geotechnical Engineer, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.

 

 

Responsibilities 

 

•    Conduct geotechnical mapping, rock mass characterization, and stability assessments to support safe design and operation of open-pit slopes, underground excavations, waste rock storage areas, and stockpiles.
•    Perform regular inspections of highwalls, excavations, underground workings, and surface facilities, ensuring compliance with safety standards and identifying geotechnical risks.
•    Monitor and analyze ground behavior using instrumentation (e.g., radar, prisms), overseeing installation, maintenance, and data interpretation to track deformation and stability.
•    Support mine planning through participation in slope design, underground design reviews (pillar stability, stope sequencing, crown pillars), and development of short- and medium-term plans with ground support recommendations.
•    Respond to ground control issues and logbook entries by investigating conditions, recommending corrective actions, and implementing mitigation strategies to maintain safe operations.
•    Lead QA/QC processes, conduct specialized testing (e.g., CRF/backfill), perform site characterizations (including return air raises), and prepare detailed technical reports with actionable recommendations.

 

 

Desired Competencies and Requirements 

 

•    Three (3) years of Geotechnical Engineering experience in metals mining, including one (1) years of experience in overseeing the work of Engineers, Engineers in Training (EIT) and engineering technologist level staff.
•    Bachelor's degree in geological/mine engineering (B.Eng).
•    Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and membership in the Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist (NAPEG) or ability to obtain same.
•    Familiarity with Deswik, Swedge, Slide, Dips, RS2, and RS3 is an asset.

 

 

Compensation and Benefits


For informational purposes, the annual salary for this role is $160,000.00
