Operator Waste Management
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Supervisor, Site Services (MLA), this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
• Operate, monitor, and maintain incinerators to ensure proper combustion of waste materials, including domestic, food, and non-hazardous industrial waste;
• Collect waste material and separate recyclables for offsite disposal and combustible waste for open air or mechanical incineration;
• Ensure compliance with all territorial and federal environmental regulations, company policies, and manufacturer operating procedures;
• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on incineration systems and associated equipment (e.g., burners, blowers, filters);
• Record data such as temperature, run times, and waste volumes for internal tracking and regulatory reporting;
• Sort and segregate waste appropriately before incineration, ensuring no hazardous or restricted materials are burned;
• Safely handle waste loading and ash removal, and dispose of ash in accordance with approved protocols;
• Report equipment malfunctions, environmental concerns, or safety incidents promptly to the supervisor; and
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the incineration area and storage zones.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
• One (1) year of skilled labourer experience in a remote camp environment. Prior work at a mine site is preferred;
• High school diploma or GED; and
• Ability to comprehend, read, write and converse in functional English to ensure safe working conditions on site.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $97,149.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $35.25 and overtime rate of $52.88) in a work year.
