Position

 

Sr. Geotechnical Engineer, Nunavut

 

 

Location and Reporting Structure 


Reporting to the Chief Mine Engineer, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.

 

 

Responsibilities 

 

•    Lead and implement geotechnical and rock mechanics programs, including data collection, rock mass characterization, instrumentation, and ground control monitoring for surface and underground operations.
•    Provide advanced geotechnical analysis and design, both numerical and empirical, to support mine planning, to ensure stability of slopes, stopes, excavations, and site earthworks. 
•    Establish and maintain geotechnical design criteria, review mine plans/designs, and ensure geotechnical risks are identified, mitigated, and aligned with industry best practices.
•    Manage underground excavation performance, stability assessments, and rehabilitation programs, including ground support optimization and extraction sequence evaluations.
•    Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with the Ground Control Management Plan, while supporting permitting, regulatory submissions, and oversight of external consultants.
•    Collaborate across technical and operations teams, provide mentorship, and drive safe, cost-effective geotechnical solutions in compliance with B2Gold standards and regulatory requirements. 

 

 

Desired Competencies and Requirements 

 

•    Eight (8) years of geotechnical engineering experience in mining (open pit and/or underground), including demonstrated experience in ground control, site investigations, geotechnical analysis, and at least two (2) years in a supervisory or mentorship capacity.
•    Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical, Geological, Civil, or Mine Engineering.
•    Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with eligibility for registration in Nunavut (mandatory).
•    Advanced proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., Deswik, RS2/RS3, Slide, Dips, Unwedge, Swedge, Map3D), strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, and proven ability to influence mine planning, lead cross-functional collaboration, and mentor technical teams. 

 

 

Compensation and Benefits


For informational purposes, the annual salary for this role is $180,000.00
