Position
Senior Surveyor, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Chief Surveyor, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
• Plan, execute, and manage comprehensive survey activities for mining operations, including drill-and-blast pattern layout, ore and dump limit staking, and topographic data collection for accurate volume reporting.
• Coordinate and oversee daily field survey workflows, providing guidance and support to the Field Surveyor, ensuring efficient task execution and alignment with operational priorities.
• Review, analyze, and prepare engineering design files for field layout, making required modifications to ensure accuracy, usability, and seamless integration with on-site surveying activities.
• Operate and maintain advanced surveying technologies, including Total Stations, GPS systems, UAVs/drones, and related instruments, to collect high-quality spatial data and support day-to-day operational needs.
• Ensure regulatory, procedural, and safety compliance by organizing dig permits, maintaining precise buried-utility records, verifying accurate staking per SOPs, and completing scheduled readings of monitoring devices.
• Document, report, and communicate survey results through accurate record-keeping, timely weekly and monthly reporting, collaboration with Technical Services, Operations, and Site Services, and coordinating specialized drone surveys such as Photogrammetry, LiDAR, and Bathymetry.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
• Five (5) years’ experience in Senior Surveyor role with experience in open pit mining and construction environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Geospatial Science, or related field.
• Strong technical skills in Deswik, AutoCAD, TBC and DJI.
• Advanced RPAS Pilot’s License preferred.
• Experience with Trimble controller and Total Station is preferred.
• Ability to walk five (5) kilometers or more for ten (10) hours daily in adverse weather conditions.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $157,781.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $57.25 and overtime rate of $ 85.88) in a work year.
