Position

 

Supervisor, Health and Safety - MLA, Nunavut

 

 

Location and Reporting Structure 


Reporting to the Manager, Health and Safety this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.

 

 

Responsibilities 

 

•    Ensure all mining operations comply with health and safety regulations, industry standards, and B2Gold Nunavut’s policies;
•    Implement, and recommend improvements safety policies and procedures in alignment with best practices and legal requirements;
•    Monitor and enforce compliance with OHS regulations across marine laydown areas, aerodromes, and logistical operations; Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments;
•    Coordinate and oversee emergency response activities; Work closely with contractors, Marine Laydown Area site leadership, and management to identify and mitigate safety risks;
•    Conduct routine safety inspections and audits of mining sites, equipment, and facilities to identify hazards;
•    Lead investigations into workplace accidents, near-misses, and hazardous conditions. Identify root causes of incidents and develop corrective and preventive measures;
•    Develop and conduct safety training programs for employees, contractors, and supervisors on topics such as hazard recognition, emergency response, and proper equipment use; and
•    Create emergency response plans, ensuring readiness for incidents such as fires, explosions, or medical emergencies.

 

 

Desired Competencies and Requirements 

 

•    Five (5) years’ experience in Occupational Health & Safety including two (2) years’ experience in a lead role;
•    Post Secondary Technical Diploma in Health, Safety or Industrial Hygiene;
•    Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST); Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) preferred;
•    Emergency response training/certification; ability to certify as a Nunavut ERT Coordinator. Train-the-Trainer certification preferred; 
•    Familiarity with regulatory frameworks for marine and logistical hubs, private aerodromes, and winter ice road construction. 
 
                                     


Compensation and Benefits

 

The salary for this role is $153,700.00 annually. Travel compensation and benefits are provided separately.
