Position

 

Supervisor, Underground Development, Nunavut 

 


Location and Reporting Structure 

 

Reporting to the Underground Mine Captain, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.

 


Responsibilities 

 

•    Lead, supervise, and develop a multidisciplinary underground mining crew, including drillers, bolters, operators, blasters, and service personnel, fostering a high‑performance culture through clear direction, coaching, and ongoing support;
•    Ensure full compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and company regulatory requirements, proactively reinforcing safe work practices through daily/weekly safety meetings, toolbox talks, and consistent workforce engagement;
•    Identify, assess, and mitigate hazards impacting safety or production, implementing strategies to reduce operational risks and supporting continuous improvement in underground development activities;
•    Plan and manage operational activities by participating in weekly planning sessions, validating production forecasts, coordinating with Maintenance, and ensuring resources, equipment, and schedules align to meet development targets;
•    Conduct routine inspections of work areas, equipment condition, and ground stability, ensuring issues are identified early and addressed promptly, while monitoring and reporting key development performance metrics; and
•    Lead and support incident investigations, ensure implementation of corrective actions, and maintain accurate and timely shift reports and operational documentation to uphold accountability, learning, and operational transparency.

 

 

Desired Competencies and Requirements 

 

•    Minimum of five (5) years of underground development mining experience, including demonstrated Lead Hand experience, preferably with jumbo bolting expertise, in a remote mining environment;
•    Valid Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission (WSCC) Underground Shiftboss or Underground Supervisor Level II and valid First Aid certification;
•    Strong understanding of underground mining methods, equipment, ground control practices, and key operational performance indicators;
•    Beneficial experience in underground mine surveying, ventilation systems, and dewatering processes;
•    Proven leadership capabilities with the ability to motivate, mentor, and develop a high‑performing crew; and
•    Proficient computer skills, including experience with MS Office, operational reporting tools, and SAP.

 
                                      


Compensation and Benefits

 

For informational purposes, the annual salary for the role is $195,000.00.
