Position

 

Team Lead, Dispatcher, Nunavut (up to 3months contract)

 

Location and Reporting Structure

 

Reporting to the Superintendent, Site Coordination (MLA) this temporary position (up to 3months contract) is a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in MLA Nunavut, Canada.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

• Plan, schedule, and release convoys in compliance with ice road regulations. Manage rotation schedules, forecast staffing needs, and recommend adjustments such as pull-ins, overtime, or shift changes;

• Adapt plans for storm-day shutdowns while maintaining real-time visibility of all truck movements;

• Oversee driver assignments to trucks and routes; verify certifications and eligibility; track duty status, time off, and maintain an up-to-date master roster in collaboration with key stakeholders and operations;

• Validate cargo and fuel manifests, scale house data, load weights, and trip logs; produce accurate daily dispatch reports, convoy summaries, and incident logs; maintain auditable records for regulatory and client requirements;

• Act as the central liaison between drivers, scale house, site supervisors, and leadership; issue daily dispatch briefs and route updates; coordinate with road maintenance teams on closures, plowing, and hazard alerts;

• Supervise and mentor dispatch staff to ensure consistent processes; handle escalations for no-shows, breakdowns, and delays; lead improvements in systems, templates, and scheduling tools; and

• Implement proactive measures to minimize disruptions, optimize resource allocation, and maintain safety and efficiency across all convoy and dispatch activities.

Desired Competencies and Requirements

 

• Three (3) years’ experience in dispatch with a comprehensive understanding of winter ice road conditions, convoy operations, and northern logistics in a remote Arctic environment with limited access to resources;

• Excellent communication skills are required both verbally and in written form in English. Clarity, etiquette and precision of communication in radio communication is essential;

• Proficient in Excel for accurate reporting and data analysis to enhance operational efficiency; and

• Advanced problem-solving and decision-making skills within a high-pressure and rapidly changing environment.

 

 

Compensation and Benefits

 

For informational purposes, the regular hourly rate is $35.00 and overtime rate is $52.50
