Position
Team Lead, Electrician, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Superintendent, Electrician, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
• Guide the installation, maintenance, repair, and commissioning of underground electrical systems, including transformers, switchgear, communication systems, conduits, cables, and other related equipment/infrastructure in compliance with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), B2Gold Nunavut’s safety policies and procedures and other applicable regulations;
• Lead the installation, testing, and startup of instrumentation and control systems; and follow document control processes to ensure updates to electrical schematics are recorded accurately;
• Provide advanced analytical and trouble shooting skills to identify and solve day-to-day issues with mine electrical systems;
• Ensure all electrical work complies with Nunavut and federal regulations related to underground electrical work, including OSHA and NFPA standards, and assist in the development of the department’s procedures and safe work instructions (SWI);
• Conduct regular safety inspections and hazard assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks and conduct Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for underground mine electrical activities.
• Coordinate daily shift operations, assign tasks based on individual skills and project requirements, ensuring optimal team performance and resource allocation:
• Align with the Technical Services and the Mine Maintenance departments to plan preventative maintenance requirements with a focus on meeting short term targets;
• Maintain detailed records of all work performed, including installations, maintenance activities, repairs, and safety incidents;
• Assist in the implementation of training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of team members; and
• Oversee the correct use and storage of high voltage PPE and coordinate the re-certification intervals.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
• Five (5) years experience working in electrical underground mining with one (1) year experience in a supervisory role;
• Red Seal Journeyperson Electrician ticket with prior experience in industrial electrical repair and maintenance in the construction and/or mining industry;
• Familiarity with reading electrical schematics and prints is required, with preference given to those with a working knowledge of the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment in mining operations; and
• Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and industry best practices.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $170,183.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $61.75 and overtime rate of $92.63) in a work year.
