Position

 

Welder, Nunavut

 

 

Location and Reporting Structure 


Reporting to the Supervisor, Mill Maintenance, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.

 

 

Responsibilities 

 

•    Review mill equipment specifications, engineering drawings, and layout plans to determine welding requirements for fixed plant assets such as conveyors, chutes, crushers, slurry lines, and structural supports.
•    Assess material properties and operating conditions to select appropriate welding processes and consumables, including hard surfacing and corrosion resistant materials suitable for abrasive ore and chemical exposure.
•    Prepare and fit components by cutting, beveling, shaping, and aligning materials to meet precise measurements and mill maintenance fit‑up tolerances.
•    Operate a wide range of industrial tools and fabrication equipment, including torches, plasma cutters, grinders, ironworkers, drills, and pipe‑preparation machinery, to support repair and rebuild activities on mill assets and infrastructure.
•    Perform high quality welds in varied orientations and confined spaces using manual and semi automatic welding equipment (SMAW, MIG, TIG, flux core), including work on elevated platforms, tanks, and remote mill areas.
•    Conduct inspections and non‑destructive testing to identify cracking, wear, fatigue, or corrosion, and perform preventive maintenance on welding and fabrication equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation.

 

 

Desired Competencies and Requirements 

 

•    Two (2) years of post-trade certification experience, with extensive work in Process plant (fixed plant) equipment, ideally in remote arctic environments with limited supply chain.
•    Interprovincial Red seal trade designation in welding, or Certificate of Qualification (CoQ).
•    Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certificate.
•    Physically able to perform the duties of the role, including lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.

 

 

Compensation and Benefits


For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $155,714.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $56.50 and overtime rate of $84.75) in a work year.
